English Heritage has acquired the Great Barn at Harmondsworth, securing the future of this unique 15th century medieval grain barn, just a stone's throw from London's Heathrow Airport. Having stood since 1426, the barn has survived centuries of weather, wars and most recently the threat of a third runway at Heathrow Airport. |

The barn is huge and has a quite breathtaking interior. The vaulted timber roof and support beams give the barn the feel of a cathedral, a point not lost on poet Sir John Betjeman who described it as the "Cathedral of Middlesex".
Virtual tour photography will commence in February 2012 and we hope to have the completed virtual tour ready in time for the public opening of the barn in April. The tour will be similar to the one we created for English Heritage of St. Mary's Church, Kempley, offering virtual visitors a fascinating multimedia experience.
